Venergy Exercises Options for Two 1900TEU Ships at Huangpu Wenchong

On February 6, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and Greek shipping company Venergy Maritime held a signing ceremony in Shanghai. This agreement marks the completion of Venergy’s first shipbuilding order in China—a total of four Honghu-class container ships.

It is understood that the two parties signed an order for 2+2 Swan-class 1900TEU feeder container ships in December 2025. This signing formally confirms the activation of the option for two additional vessels. According to shipping industry analyst Alphaliner, the first two vessels are expected to be delivered in late 2028 and early 2029, with each ship typically costing around $30 million.

The “Swan” 1900TEU feeder container ship, independently developed by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, is the shipyard’s star vessel, with cumulative orders reaching 58 vessels. Its design adheres to the concepts of green, intelligent, and efficient, and through hull line optimization, structural weight reduction, and other technical means, it significantly improves cargo capacity and operational economy, making it particularly suitable for feeder shipping needs with multiple port calls and high frequency.

Notably, just days ago (on February 4), Huangpu Wenchong and Evergreen Marine formally signed a newbuilding contract for 16 3,000 TEU container ships, scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030. This order sets a new record for the largest number of single-ship types ordered in Huangpu Wenchong’s history, once again demonstrating Huangpu Wenchong’s leading position in the feeder container ship sector.
