Sakarya Gas Field Phase 3 FPU Project Officially Commences at Wison Nantong Yard

The EPCIC project for the Sakarya Gas Field Phase III Floating Production Unit (FPU), undertaken by Wison New Energies (WNE) for Türkiye Petrolleri A.O. (TPAO), officially commenced construction today at Wison’s Nantong yard. This milestone marks the formal entry of a key core facility for the development of the ultra-deepwater Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea into the engineering and construction phase.

The Sakarya Gas Field, the largest natural gas discovery in Türkiye to date, represents a cornerstone in the country’s strategy to enhance domestic gas supply and energy independence. As a critical component of the field’s later-phase development, the Phase III project is expected to significantly strengthen Türkiye’s natural gas production capacity upon completion and commissioning, contributing meaningfully to national energy security.

As the core offshore production facility of Sakarya Phase III, the deepwater FPU will perform essential functions including natural gas processing, compression, and export. Designed for a 30-year service life, the unit features a double-hull vessel design, with an overall length 282 meters and a breadth of 54 meters, specifically engineered for operation in 2,150 meters of ultra-deepwater. The project is scheduled to achieve hull float-out in April 2027, followed by on-site installation and commissioning, to be completed by the end of 2027.

The official launch of the Sakarya Phase III FPU project further strengthens Wison New Energies capabilities in deepwater engineering delivery, integration of high-end offshore production facilities, and international EPCIC project management, while continuing to provide valuable practical experience for China’s offshore engineering sector in the global floating energy market.

Türkiye Petrolleri A.O. (TPAO) is the national oil company of the Republic of Türkiye, established in 1954 and headquartered in Ankara. With nearly 70 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, TPAO is responsible for hydrocarbon exploration, drilling, production, and marketing. The Sakarya Gas Field Development Project is jointly developed by TPAO and its subsidiary, the Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC), which serves as TPAO’s core offshore technical organization.
