At the dawn of the New Year, Chinese shipbuilder Wuhu Shipyard has achieved another significant milestone in the international shipbuilding market, having formally signed a contract with the renowned German integrated maritime group, Nordic Hamburg Group, and its partners for the construction of 3+2 units of 13,300 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift vessels (MPP/Heavy Lift Vessels).

The vessels under this contract can be described as “versatile workhorses of the sea,” integrating multiple functionalities. Featuring a hatch coverless design, they offer a substantial cargo hold capacity of approximately 26,500 cubic meters and a combined lifting capability of 500 tons. This enables the efficient transportation of oversized cargoes, such as wind power equipment, alongside various general goods. Simultaneously, these vessels stand as benchmarks for green and energy-efficient operation. Through multiple technologies, including an SCR system and optimized hull form, they meet the highest energy efficiency and emission standards, achieving a reduction in fuel consumption of over 20% compared to older vessels, and are equipped for navigation in ice conditions. Furthermore, the vessels are integrated with intelligent control systems and professional safety designs, ensuring a high level of operational intelligence and reliability throughout service, thereby significantly enhancing their overall competitiveness and operational flexibility.
The Nordic Hamburg Group is a distinguished integrated maritime group within the global shipping industry, celebrated for its innovative business model and exceptional operational capabilities. Headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, the group operates across five major global shipping hubs and manages a diversified fleet of 86 modern vessels. Upholding core values of “openness, support, and rapid response,” the group remains at the forefront of green shipping technological innovation, particularly boasting extensive experience and forward-looking strategy in newbuilding project development and the application of alternative-fuel vessels. Their decision to collaborate with Wuhu Shipyard fully demonstrates their high recognition of our century-old shipbuilding heritage, technical expertise, and project execution capabilities.
The successful collaboration with the Nordic Hamburg Group and its partners marks another major breakthrough for Wuhu Shipyard in the international market for high-end, multi-functional vessel construction. In recent years, Wuhu Shipyard has developed a series of benchmark products, including the 5800 DWT multi-purpose vessel, the 7000 DWT RoRo heavy lift vessel, the 7800 DWT multi-purpose vessel, and the 14600 DWT heavy lift vessel. Among these, the 7000 DWT RoRo heavy lift vessel “Bore Way” and the 5800 DWT multi-purpose vessel “Lady Marie Christine” were recognized for their innovative and environmental features by being selected for inclusion in the world-renowned ship registry Significant Ships of 2022, published by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
Standing at a new starting point of development, Wuhu Shipyard will continue to uphold innovation-driven and green development strategies, deepen international cooperation, and collaborate with global partners. With a spirit of seizing the day, we will anchor our course toward green, intelligent, and innovative directions, focus on industrial upgrading, overcome core technological challenges, and strive to transform our development blueprint into a magnificent journey of building a world-class shipbuilding and marine equipment industry cluster.
