Second 13,800 DWT Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker of XT-IMC Shipping Officially Starts Construction

On December 31st, the second 13,800 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker, a collaborative project between XT-IMC Shipping and Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding, officially commenced construction.

Classified by Bureau Veritas (BV), the vessel is seaworthy for unlimited navigation. With a length of 132 meters, a beam of 21.5 meters, and a depth of 11.6 meters, it has a design speed of 13.5 knots. With a deadweight of 13,800 tons and total cargo capacity of approximately 15,300 m³, it is capable of transporting IMO Class II and III chemicals, demonstrating exceptional cargo handling capability. Its main and auxiliary machinery emissions comply with Tier III standards, and it incorporates a cybersecurity classification symbol, combining environmental compliance with intelligent safety protection capabilities. Its overall performance reaches industry-leading levels.

On March 6, 2025, XT-IMC Shipping placed an order with Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding for two 13,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers and two 13,800 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, totaling approximately RMB 663.2 million (approximately US$95 million). This marks the first collaboration between the two parties in the new shipbuilding market.

According to the information disclosed at the time, the two 13,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, with a unit cost of RMB 170 million per vessel, are scheduled for delivery on July 31, 2026 and January 31, 2027 respectively. The other two 13,800 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers, each with a unit price of RMB 161.6 million, are expected to be delivered on September 30, 2026 and November 30, 2026 respectively.
