Misje Rederi’s 4th eco-friendly hybrid bulk carrier hits water

In a pivotal stride toward sustainability, Misje Rederi AS celebrates the ceremonial launch of MV Misje Flora, its 4th Eco-Friendly Hybrid Bulk Carrier, crafted at Colombo Dockyard PLC in Sri Lanka.

In August 2020, Misje Rederi AS signed a contract with Colombo Dockyard for the construction of 6+4 environmentally friendly hybrid bulk carriers. The “Misje Flora” is the fourth in a series of six vessels and was laid in November 2022 with keel laying.

The vessels in the series are approximately 90 meters long and have a deadweight of 5,000 tons. The first vessel, Misje Vita, was delivered in September 2022; the second vessel, Misje Verde, was delivered in April and christened in June; and the third vessel, Misje Viola, was launched in July and delivered in October.

The vessel features a hybrid energy storage battery system, and the vessel concept and basic design was developed by Wärtsilä Ship Design Norway AS. Colombo Dockyard said that the fully integrated hybrid solution will enable the vessel to achieve zero-emission access to ports and cargo operations.

The launch, a collaborative triumph at Colombo Dockyard PLC, symbolizes a commitment to green maritime practices. MV Misje Flora’s imminent delivery signifies not only fleet expansion but also Misje Rederi AS’s dedication to shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future for the maritime industry.

It is reported that Colombo Shipyard is mainly oriented to the European market, especially the construction of environmentally friendly bulk carriers, cable laying vessels, ship repairs and service operation vessels.
