CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Breaks Ground on EPC Capacity Upgrade Project

On December 22, the first steel structure lifting operation of the curved block workshop expansion project—part of the block construction capacity enhancement and intelligent transformation project of CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, undertaken by CSSC Ninth Design & Research Institute(CSSC NDRI) under an EPC contract—was successfully completed. This marks the official entry of the project into a brand-new phase of main structure construction.

It is understood that the Beihai Shipbuilding Construction Capacity Enhancement and Intelligent Transformation Project commenced on November 12, 2025. This initiative represents a pivotal step in significantly boosting Beihai Shipbuilding’s production capacity and advancing toward higher-end manufacturing. It not only enhances block construction capabilities but also refines key aspects of intelligent shipbuilding.

Upon completion of this project, Beihai Shipbuilding will achieve an annual production capacity of 17 vessels with 650,000 compensated gross tons in Shipbuilding Zone 1, thereby consolidating and enhancing its global market competitiveness in ultra-large ore carriers and large bulk carriers.

It is worth mentioning that this project marks the first EPC project undertaken by CSSC NDRI at Beihai Shipbuilding, serving as a milestone for the two parties to further deepen their cooperation. As the EPC contractor, CSSC NDRI gave full play to its advantages in full-chain integration: the technical backbones from the design department made multiple on-site visits to provide resident services, successfully resolving the technical difficulties in construction with precision; the R&D center set up a special task force for steel structure projects, coordinated various technical challenges in a holistic manner and put forward optimization solutions, laying a solid technical foundation for the smooth progress of the construction.

CSSC NDRI stated that the project to enhance block construction capacity and implement intelligent upgrades at Beihai Shipbuilding was completed in just one month—from steel structure benchmarking to the successful first lift—fully demonstrating CSSC NDRI’s capabilities and strengths in deeply integrating design and construction.

Following the completion of the first steel structure lifting operation, the project team from CSSC NDRI will continue to leverage its core strengths in design leadership and digital empowerment. CSSC NDRI will adhere to the principle of “high-quality construction and efficient advancement” to ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards. This will support Beihai Shipbuilding in realizing its strategic blueprint for early capacity upgrades and intelligent transformation, injecting robust momentum into the high-quality development of China’s shipbuilding industry.
