Fujian Shipbuilding Surpasses Midpoint Milestone in Landmark Tanker Project

The project of 28 18,500 DWT oil/chemical tankers undertaken by Fujian Shipbuilding during the 14th Five-Year Plan period has now reached the halfway mark. As of December 18, 2025, the shipyards has completed construction and exported 14 vessels, while the remaining 14 are progressing through key phases including pre-production preparation, final assembly, launching and sea trials. This batch of orders has set three new records for Fujian shipbuilders: the largest number of high-end vessels contracted, the highest technological complexity, and the fastest export pace.

    • Recently, all shipbuilding bases under Fujian Shipbuilding have reached key milestones in rapid succession:
    • In mid-to-late November, Mawei Shipbuilding secured an order for 2+2 2,900 TEU container vessels from T.S. Lines;
    • Fujian Province’s first comprehensive marine environmental monitoring and law enforcement vessel, China Environmental Monitoring Fujian 001, was delivered;
    • Two 18,500 DWT oil/chemical tankers and one 5,000-horsepower new energy tugboat, constructed respectively by Southeast Shipbuilding and Mawei Shipbuilding, were delivered one after another;
    • On December 18, two 76-meter large-scale tuna purse seiners were delivered 54 days ahead of schedule, while another 18,500 DWT oil/chemical tanker was handed over 164 days ahead of the contractual deadline;

During the same period, multiple new projects, including platform supply vessels and tuna purse seiners, were successively kicked off constrction or keel-laid at various shipyards under Fujian Shipbuilding, with production processes maintaining a highly efficient and seamless pace.

The 18,500 DWT oil and chemical tanker, with an overall length of 149.8 meters and a beam of 22.8 meters, is a technology-intensive product. Its most prominent features lie in the deep integration of “green” and “smart” technologies: forward-looking green propulsion, high-efficiency operational systems and intelligent energy management.

All bases of Fujian Shipbuilding are still busy and orderly. Preparations for the departure of the 18,500 DWT oil and chemical tanker and the construction of new projects such as car carriers and new energy vessels are progressing steadily, continuing to write a new chapter in the process of building a strong maritime nation.

Currently, Fujian Shipbuilding has not only solidified its foundation in traditional shipbuilding but is also accelerating its entry into new competitive arenas such as green vessels and smart vessels.
