On June 25, Guangzhou Shipyard International, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), named and delivered the fifth 50,000 DWT methanol dual-fuel chemical/product tanker built for JPM. The new vessel was named “LARGO APOLLO.” This marks the 17th methanol/fuel oil dual-fuel MR tanker delivered by Guangzhou Shipyard International, setting a new record for the shipbuilder’s construction cycle for vessels of this type.

This vessel is a new-generation MR methanol dual-fuel vessel independently developed by Guangzhou Shipyard International. It aligns with the global trend toward green transformation in the shipping industry, balancing ultra-low emissions with high operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Compared to traditional fuel-powered vessels, it significantly reduces carbon emissions and serves as a core asset for Morgan Asset Management’s expansion into the green shipping market.
Guangzhou Shipyard International stated that the series comprises a total of six vessels; to date, four have been successfully delivered and put into operation, receiving a positive market response.
Since delivering its first 49,900 DWT methanol-dual-fuel vessel in 2022, Guangzhou Shipyard International has successfully delivered 17 methanol-dual-fuel vessels to domestic and international shipowners.
Through continuous optimization of construction processes and the mastery of core technologies, the efficiency of building this vessel type has steadily improved. The vessel delivered this time took less than a year from keel laying to completion, finishing 194 days ahead of the contractual schedule and setting a new record for the shortest construction cycle for this type of vessel at Guangzhou Shipyard International.
