Seatrium Secures Repeat Equipment and Design Contract for Jack-up Drilling Platform

On December 10, 2025, Seatrium Offshore Technology, the flagship offshore jack-up designer for Seatrium Group, was awarded a repeat contract by International Maritime Industries (IMI), the largest shipyard in the MENA region, for the supply of equipment and license for a LeTourneau Super 116E Class Self-Elevating Drilling Unit (SE-MODU), Kingdom 4.

This latest award follows the successful Kingdom 3 contract earlier this year and reinforces the strong partnership between Seatrium and IMI in advancing offshore drilling capabilities in the Kingdom. The Kingdom 4 project further underscores IMI’s commitment to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives of technology leadership, sustainability, and local content development.

As with Kingdom 3, the selected design will be the LeTourneau Super 116E Class, part of Seatrium’s next-generation jack-up designs tailored for operational requirements in the MENA region. These rigs will feature 343-foot legs, a 1.5-million-pound hook load capacity, and advanced cyber systems, ensuring superior performance and reliability in demanding offshore environments.

Seatrium’s flexible approach enables clients to construct vessels at its own yards or utilize its proven rig kits to meet local content requirements. This repeat order reinforces Seatrium’s legacy as a global leader in jack-up rig design and construction—a legacy that began in 1955 with the world’s first independent leg jack-up drilling rig.

The Kingdom 4 award marks the 45th order for the LeTourneau Super 116 series, reaffirming its position as one of the most trusted and widely deployed jack-up designs globally. Today, Seatrium has designed and contributed to the construction of more than half of all jack-up rigs in service worldwide, including 65% of those operating in the Middle East.

In the offshore engineering market, Seatrium recently signed a contract with BP Exploration and Production Inc. (BP) to provide engineering design, equipment procurement, construction, and onshore commissioning for the Tiber Floating Production Unit (FPU) in the Gulf of Mexico, USA. The Tiber FPU is designed to have a daily production capacity of 80,000 barrels of crude oil and will utilize advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency and safety.

It is understood that IMI Shipyard, which signed the agreement with Seatrium, was established in 2017 as a joint venture between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries—a shipbuilding subsidiary of South Korea’s HD Hyundai Group—Saudi Aramco, Bahri, and the UAE’s Lamprell. Their respective equity stakes are 20%, 40%, 20%, and 20%.

Located in Ras Al-Khair, the IMI Shipyard spans 12 million square meters and is equipped with three large dry docks, four Goliath cranes, and seven berths. With an annual production capacity exceeding 40 vessels, it offers newbuilding and ship repair services for various ship types including VLCCs, bulk carriers, product tankers, offshore vessels, and drilling rigs. It is recognized as the most advanced shipbuilding base in the Middle East and North Africa region. The facility was originally scheduled to commence production by the end of 2020 and achieve full operational capacity by 2022, but these timelines were delayed due to factors including the COVID-19 pandemic.
