Shipping industry analyst Alphaliner reports that Greek conglomerate V Group has entered the container shipping market for the first time through its newly established subsidiary OceanV, placing an order for new vessels with a Chinese shipyard.

Reports indicate that OceanV has signed a contract with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, for the construction of 2+2 1930TEU feeder container ships. The first two vessels are expected to be delivered by the end of 2028 and early 2029. The new buildings will utilize conventional propulsion systems, with each vessel typically costing around $30 million. Based on this calculation, including the option vessels, the total value of the four new vessels is approximately $120 million.
Alphaliner specifically emphasizes that V Group, which is collaborating with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding on this shipbuilding project, is unrelated to the global ship management company of the same name, V.Group. The former, headquartered in Piraeus and led by Vyron Vasileiadis, focuses on port reception facility operation, emergency response, decontamination services, waste-to-fuel production and related technologies.
The recent order for up to four new vessels from international shipowners further demonstrates Huangpu Wenchong’s strong competitiveness in the feeder container ship market.
According to the performance report released by Huangpu Wenchong a few days ago, the company currently holds the top global market share in the feeder container ship sector. With an order backlog of 57 vessels, it has established a comprehensive portfolio of feeder container ships ranging from 1,000 TEU to 9,000 TEU, offering a full spectrum of specifications for mass production.
During this period, Huangpu Wenchong and Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine signed a single commercial order for 24 vessels totaling 2,300 TEU container ships, marking the largest single order for feeder container ships in the international market. As of December 10, 2025, all 24 vessels from the first batch of the Huangpu Wenchong-Evergreen collaboration have been delivered. Additionally, six newly contracted 2,400 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships are currently under construction.
