CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International Signs Contract for Two Specialized Vessels with Shanghai Salvage Bureau

On December 9, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and the Shanghai Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport signed a contract in Shanghai for the construction of one 65,000 DWT semi-submersible transport support vessel and one deepwater diving support vessel.

Shanghai Salvage Bureau’s new construction project aims to enhance deep-sea salvage capabilities in severe sea conditions and develop core critical equipment for the national salvage equipment system. It focuses on key missions such as emergency salvage and saturation diving in complex maritime environments.

The 65,000 DWT semi-submersible transport support vessel contracted for construction is a self-propelled trimaran semi-submersible vessel equipped with shaft propeller electric propulsion, DP-2 dynamic positioning, and rapid load adjustment capabilities.

Another deepwater diving support vessel is an offshore engineering vessel equipped with azimuth electric propulsion and DP-3 dynamic positioning. It is capable of supporting deepwater large-scale structure hoisting and subsea installation, saturation diving and air diving operations, ROV operations, as well as emergency personnel rescue and evacuation from offshore facilities.

In the field of semi-submersible vessel design and construction, GSI possesses extensive experience and maintains a global leadership position within this sector. The signing of these two vessels not only provides strong support for GSI to consolidate its position and market share in this ship type segment, but also represents a significant initiative by GSI to help shipowners actively implement major national strategic plans and strengthen the defense line for maritime security.
