Seafuels, a subsidiary of Port of Auckland, New Zealand, has announced the signing of a contract with Turkish shipyard ADA DENIZCILIK VE TERSANE ISLETMECILIGI for the construction of a new-generation bunkering vessel. The vessel is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027, with a unit cost of US$50 million.

This bunker vessel measures 88.8 meters in length and complies with IMO Class II chemical tanker standards. Upon delivery, it will replace Seafuels’ current Awanuia bunker vessel and enter into a long-term charter agreement with a major fuel supplier. The existing Awanuia bunker vessel has served the Port of Auckland for 18 years.
Seafuels stated that this new shipbuilding project will provide shipping companies with more sustainable fuel bunkering solutions. It will not only continue supplying low-sulfur fuel oil and marine diesel bunkering capabilities but also possess the capacity to supply two new environmentally friendly fuels—biodiesel and methanol.
A representative from the Port of Auckland stated: “This bunkering vessel represents a significant investment in the port’s future and marks an important milestone in the company’s sustainable development journey.”
