GSI Cuts Steel For Greek Chandris’ Second LNG Dual-Fuel Tanker

On November 6, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) commenced construction of the second 111,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel crude/product tanker for Greece’s Chandris (Hellas) Company (referred to as “Chandris”). This milestone marks the project’s entry into the shipbuilding phase.

It is understood that a total of two vessels will be built in this series. The construction contract was signed and took effect at the end of 2023, and the first vessel is scheduled to be delivered in early 2026.

This series of vessels is a new generation of LNG dual-fuel LRⅡ type oil tankers independently designed and developed by GSI, using both fuel oil and LNG (liquefied natural gas) for propulsion. The vessels are 250 meters long, 44 meters wide, have a structural draft of 14.7 meters, a deadweight tonnage of 111,000 tons, and a service speed of 14.5 knots.

Compliant with IMO Tier III emissions standards and achieving Phase III Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), these vessels feature high speed, light deadweight, low energy consumption and strong adaptability. They rank among the top in their class for energy efficiency metrics, environmental performance and reliability requirements.

The ongoing research and development of this series of vessels responds to the global shipping industry’s demand for green transformation. As one of GSI’s main environmentally friendly vessel types, its dual-fuel propulsion system not only meets the latest environmental requirements of the International Maritime Organization but also offers the flexibility to switch fuels, aligning with shipowners’ dual requirements for low-carbon operation and economic efficiency.
