Samsung Heavy Industries Partners with DSEC to Advance Korea-U.S. MASGA Shipbuilding Project

Through collaboration with South Korean ship design and equipment suppliers, Samsung Heavy Industries is accelerating the Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation project—MASGA.

On November 6, Samsung Heavy Industries announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DSEC, a South Korean ship design and equipment procurement company, to establish a strategic partnership.

DSEC is a mid-sized Korean enterprise engaged in multifaceted collaborations with U.S. shipyards across commercial and specialized vessels, encompassing design, equipment supply, maintenance, and shipyard consulting. Leveraging its extensive experience in U.S. ship design and procurement, the company is expected to generate significant synergies with Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate in the construction of medium-sized commercial ships, shipyard modernization consulting, ship retrofitting, and maintenance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier cargo tanks. The scope of cooperation will cover both domestic and international markets, including the United States.

Previously, Samsung Heavy Industries has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bigger Marine of the United States to jointly undertake maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for U.S. Navy vessels, and plans to engage in joint shipbuilding operations with U.S. partner shipyards in the future.

Samsung Heavy Industries stated: “Following our strategic partnership with Bigger Marine Group in the United States, this collaboration with DSEC presents an opportunity to create a new growth engine. By combining our shipbuilding and offshore engineering expertise with DSEC’s design and procurement capabilities in the U.S., we plan to establish an optimized value chain for the MASGA project.”
