Hengli Heavy Industries Secures Orders for 5 Bulk Carriers from European Owners, Valued at $211 Million

Chinese shipbuilder Hengli Heavy Industries announced that it has recently signed contracts with leading European shipowners Eastern Mediterranean and Seanergy for the construction of five new vessels. The orders include four Kamsarmax bulk carriers and one Capesize bulk carrier, with a total contract value exceeding 1.5 billion yuan (approximately US$211 million).

In early October, Hengli Heavy Industries successfully named and delivered both a Kamsarmax bulk carrier and a Capesize bulk carrier for German shipowner Vogemann on the same day. These contracted vessels represent Hengli Heavy Industries’ flagship vessel types. Leveraging advanced shipbuilding technology and extensive construction experience, the company has established these designs as highly sought-after products in the market.

The Kamsarmax vessel is highly favored by global shipping clients for its outstanding cargo capacity and efficient operational performance. Meanwhile, the Capesize vessel has become a significant force in the international shipping market due to its exceptional deadweight tonnage and outstanding navigational capabilities. These primary ship types are designed with shipowners’ practical needs and market trends in mind throughout the construction process, ensuring superior performance, safety, and economic efficiency.

As a vital part of the global shipping market, Europe places extremely high demands on vessel quality and performance. Over the past few months, Hengli Heavy Industries has signed contracts for dozens of newbuild vessels with several prominent European shipowners.

According to incomplete statistics, since September, Hengli Heavy Industries has successively announced new building orders across major mainstream vessel types, including the latest shipbuilding contracts. The company has secured a total of 31+4 vessels, comprising 13 VLCCs, 4+4 container vessels, and 14 bulk carriers.

Data indicates that Hengli Heavy Industries currently ranks among the world’s leading large ocean-going vessel manufacturers in terms of both its existing order backlog and newly secured orders. The company has commenced construction on over 70 vessels, with production schedules already booked through 2029. According to Clarkson data, Hengli Heavy Industries entered the global top ten shipyards in 2024, ranking fourth on the list with 56 vessels and 2.68 million CGT in new orders.
