Jiangnan Shipyard Orders 1,600-Ton Gantry Crane from ZPMC

On October 16, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Jiangnan Shipyard and Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) held a contract signing ceremony for the 3# dock lifting capacity improvement project – a 1,600-ton gantry crane. Hu Hongyu, Deputy General Manager of Jiangnan Shipyard, and Lu Hanzhong, Vice President and Chief Engineer of ZPMC, attended the signing ceremony and signed the agreement on behalf of both companies.

It is understood that the 1,600-ton gantry crane signed this time is the key equipment for Jiangnan Shipyard to achieve the construction task of 8 batches of double lines in the 3# dock. It will help the company to smoothly complete the delivery task of the backlog orders, and it is of great strategic significance for realizing the independent control of key technologies of the containment system of large LNG carriers.

This 1,600-ton gantry crane adopts a single main beam design, equipped with two upper trolleys and one lower trolley. It features multiple functions such as single lifting, multi-hook lifting, and aerial flipping of components, which can meet the diverse hoisting needs in shipbuilding. After commissioning, it will be mainly used in key processes such as hull block assembly, lifting, and hoisting.

The 1,600-ton gantry crane has a track gauge exceeding 200 meters and a beam bottom elevation exceeding 90 meters, with a construction and delivery period of 10 months. Compared to the 12-14 month construction period for similar-sized gantry cranes in the industry, this shortened construction period will place higher demands on schedule control, the supply chain for critical components, and the construction progress of supporting projects such as equipment anchoring and fastening.

This equipment also fully draws on the operating experience of Jiangnan Shipyard’s existing 1600t crane, and proposes 10 key upgrade and optimization suggestions around the four dimensions of safety, quality, efficiency, and maintenance, which will be more in line with the company’s needs for changes in process and method.
