GSI Delivers 49,600 DWT Chemical Tanker “PACIFIC TAURUS” to Zhejiang Shipping

On September 30, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held the naming and delivery ceremony for the 49,600 DWT chemical tanker “PACIFIC TAURUS” (the first vessel of its series) built for Zhejiang Shipping Group. The naming and delivery of this vessel marks a historic breakthrough for Zhejiang Shipping Group in its liquid bulk fleet development—moving from “zero to one”—and represents a crucial step taken by Zhejiang Shipping in the liquid bulk sector.

This 49,600 DWT chemical tanker is built on GSI’s independently developed 16th-generation MR platform. It represents the latest vessel type developed based on GSI’s decades of experience in MR design and construction. Its Energy Efficiency Index (EEDI) fully meets the International Maritime Organization’s Phase III requirements, reducing carbon emissions by over 15% compared to similar vessels. It is environmentally friendly and offers reliable performance.

It is reported that it took only 32 days from launching to sea trial for the “PACIFIC TAURUS”, which fully demonstrated the strong capabilities of GSI in the construction of this type of vessel.
