About a month later, Japan’s largest shipbuilding group, Imabari Shipbuilding, has once again handed over a new vessel to Ocean Network Express (ONE).
On September 19, Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame headquarters delivered the 13,900 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container ship “One Strength” to ONE.
One Strength measures 335.94 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 30.1 meters in depth, with a gross tonnage of 140,233. Equipped with a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine, the vessel has a speed of approximately 22 knots. Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and flying the Singapore flag, it is designed for future conversion to methanol/ammonia fuel operation and installation of a carbon capture system, having already received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the classification society.
The vessel “One Strength” can carry up to approximately 13,932 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Its deck is equipped with up to four layers of lashing bridges, enabling the loading of large quantities of refrigerated containers in both the holds and on deck, as well as various dangerous goods as defined by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.
The vessel utilizes the latest analytical techniques to optimize speed and draft for high-frequency sailing conditions, resulting in an advanced design focused on high efficiency. Through the implementation of energy-saving devices, a twisted rudder, and a hull coating that reduces friction with the seawater, the vessel achieves exceptional fuel efficiency. This is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 60%, significantly exceeding the latest requirements. A bow wind cover further enhances the vessel’s performance during actual sailing.
Additionally, to comply with sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission limits, the vessel is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR).
Recently, Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered several new vessels to ONE, including “One Sincerity”, “One Sapphire” and “One Singapore”, all of which are sister vessels of the newly delivered “One Strength”.
It is worth mentioning that ONE’s first 13,000TEU ammonia/methanol reserved container ship “ONE Sparkle” was named in mid-February this year. The vessel was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
