Petrobras Subsidiary Targets Biofuel Transport Leadership with 20-Barge Tender Restart

Transpetro, the logistics subsidiary of Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras, will soon restart the bidding process for the construction of barges.

In May this year, Transpetro issued a tender announcement for 4 barges, 4 pushers, and 1 tugs for fuel transportation. However, it only attracted bids from one shipyard, and Transpetro deemed its offer too high.

The latest news is that Transpetro CEO Sergio Bacci announced that the tender will be restarted and the number of tenders will be increased to 20 barges, which is aimed at increasing the attractiveness to shipyards.

Sergio Bacci said, “The company is finalizing this process and expects to issue a tender announcement for barges in September.”

In information released in May this year, Transpetro said it planned to deliver 20 barges, 20 pushers and four tugs by the end of 2026. Sergio Bacci did not specify whether the new tender would include the remaining pushers and tugs that the company planned to purchase.

At the time, Sergio Bacci stated that the new barges would make Transpetro the leading operator in the transportation of oil, oil products and biofuels in Brazil.
