On July 29, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Beihai Shipbuilding, in conjunction with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) and a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Development, formally signed a contract for the construction of four 210,000 DWT bulk carriers.
As a benchmark product that deeply integrates green and intelligent technologies, the 210,000 DWT bulk carrier signed in this time has undergone a comprehensive upgrade in technical performance. The vessel adopts a new generation of efficient hull design, reducing fuel consumption by approximately 6% compared to the previous generation, meeting the EEDI Phase 3 energy efficiency requirements, and achieving a significant improvement in energy efficiency. In response to the fuel transition trend in the shipping industry, the vessel features a dual-fuel design for methanol and ammonia, providing flexible support for shipowners to explore alternative fuels in the future.
It is understood that after delivery, these vessels will be leased to COSCO Shipping Bulk for long-term operation. This signing marks the renewed collaboration between COSCO SHIPPING Development, COSCO Shipping Bulk, Beihai Shipbuilding, and CSTC, following their initial collaboration in 2019.
This not only fully demonstrates COSCO SHIPPING Development’s commitment to leveraging its industrial and financial synergies to support fleet transformation and upgrading for companies within the supply chain, but also represents a significant initiative for upstream and downstream companies in the supply chain to jointly develop RMB applications for “build, lease and shipping,” deepening the internationalization of the RMB. It also marks a key step forward for the powerful alliance among central state-owned enterprises in strengthening equipment independence and promoting a green and low-carbon transition.
