On July 25, Sinopec COSCO Shipping Bunker Supply Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SINOBUNKER), a professional ship fuel supply company under COSCO Shipping Group, refueled a 5500HP ammonia-powered port operation vessel with marine green ammonia fuel at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian)’s Terminal, Liaoning Province, marking the world’s first green marine ammonia fuel supply.
This marks a milestone step forward for China’s shipping industry on the path to green and low-carbon transformation, and also provides a valuable “Chinese solution” for the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
This bunkering also makes Dalian the only port in the world that has the ability to supply alternative marine fuels such as biofuels, green methanol, LNG and green ammonia fuel, further improving the fuel supply system of Dalian Port and filling the gap in the category of green ammonia fuel bunkering for domestic trade ships. This not only provides more diversified and environmentally friendly fuel options for domestic and foreign ships, but also greatly enhances the reputation and influence of Dalian Port in the shipping industry.
It is understood that SINOBUNKER, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian), and Envision Technology worked closely together and carefully organized the project, from technical research and development to actual operation, to jointly promote the construction of the Dalian Northeast Asia Green Ship Fuel Bunkering Center.
It is understood that the green ammonia fuel bunkered this time comes from Inner Mongolia. It is a clean and efficient new type of ship fuel made from renewable energy sources such as wind energy and solar energy. Its combustion products are mainly nitrogen and water. It has the significant advantage of zero carbon emissions and is one of the key technical paths for the shipping industry to achieve the “dual carbon” goal.
Envision Technology is the supplier of green ammonia fuel for this project. Yu Feng, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy and President of the Hydrogen Energy Market Product Line, who is responsible for this bunkering project, compared the cost-effectiveness of green ammonia fuel and green methanol.
It is reported that on July 8 this year, the first phase of the 320,000-ton project of the world’s largest 1.52 million-ton green hydrogen-ammonia project built by Envision Technology was completed and put into production in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. The project mainly produces green hydrogen-ammonia alcohol and bio-jet fuel, and is defined by Envision Technology as the world’s largest “new oil” base.
