China’s Hunan Taohuajiang Yacht Manufacturing to Build $70M Green Ship Hub for Southeast Asia Market

On July 11, Hunan Taohuajiang Yacht Manufacturing released the “First Public Notice of Environmental Impact Assessment for New Energy Shipbuilding Project”, marking that the company’s new energy ship base is about to be put into use.

Public information shows that the project is located in the Sainan Lake area of Yuanjiang Ship Industry Park, covering a total area of about 159 Mu. The main construction content includes a coating shop, a ship manufacturing shop, a dismantling area, a slipway, an office and living area, and other supporting public facilities. Upon completion, the project will have an annual production capacity of 50 metal ships and an annual dismantling capacity of 30 scrap ships.

According to previous reports, in April 2024, Hunan Taohuajiang Yacht Manufacturing announced that the Taohuajiang new energy shipbuilding project invested by the company will be put into mass production in 2025. The project covers an area of about 110 Mu, with a coastline of more than 200 meters, a total investment of RMB 500 million (approximately US$69.75 million), and will create more than 500 jobs. It is planned to build a ship intelligent production plant, warehouse, office building, R&D building, employee dormitory, etc.

The base will produce new energy ships and yachts for Hainan, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and other places, and will build a new energy ship full industry chain demonstration base integrating R&D, design, manufacturing, sales, service, leasing, maintenance and driving training. After completion, the project will become an important base for the company to connect with the world, and is expected to achieve an annual output value of RMB 600 million (approximately US$83.7 million).

Established in April 2005, Hunan Taohuajiang Yacht Manufacturing is a high-tech, high-performance, high-speed boat manufacturing enterprise integrating R&D, design, manufacturing, and service. The company is currently focusing on the development of autonomous ships, pure electric ships, oil-gas hybrid and oil-electric hybrid ships, and LNG natural gas large bulk carriers, further addressing the issue of diesel and gasoline engine emissions polluting water quality and the atmosphere.

It is worth mentioning that the government has recently issued the “Policy Measures for Promoting Water Transport Development in Hunan Province”, which provides clear rewards and subsidies for the construction or renovation of new energy passenger and cargo ships, further stimulating the vitality of the new energy ship market. It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the total output value of new energy ships in Yuanjiang City will reach RMB 3.86 billion, an increase of 35.2% compared with the same period last year, showing strong market growth potential.
