Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant Secures 5,600-Ton Full-Revolving Crane Contract with Yantai Salvage Bureau

Recently, Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant (WMMP) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) signed a contract with Yantai Salvage Bureau for a 5,600-ton full-revolving crane project. This project marks WMMP’s first entry into the heavy-duty full-revolving marine crane market of 5,000 tons and above, fully demonstrating the company’s design and construction capabilities for the full series of marine cranes. It will consolidate WMMP’s leading position in the marine engineering equipment market and enhance its brand influence.

This 5,000-tonne crane and salvage engineering vessel is a steel, fully welded, electrically powered self-propelled crane and salvage engineering vessel. It is primarily used for emergency rescue and salvage operations involving sunken ships and objects underwater. It is capable of responding to emergencies, performing large-tonnage underwater object salvage operations and rapid obstacle clearance.

WMMP will equip the vessel with a 5,600-ton floating heavy-lift crane, with a maximum lifting capacity of 5,600 tons at 45 meters (without securing, improving operational efficiency), and a maximum lifting capacity of 3,500 tons at 45 meters in full rotation, enabling the lifting and installation of large modules, platform modules, and jackets. Upon completion, the main crane’s lifting capacity will rank among the top three in China.

The project aligns with international advanced technical standards and innovatively develops a marine crane with a large split-type slewing bearing, which offers significant advantages such as high reliability, lightweight construction, and more balanced load distribution. In addition, this type of slewing bearing not only ensures that it does not require repair or replacement during its entire design life cycle under routine maintenance, but is also equipped with endoscope inspection and flushing functions, and a reserved window for internal rolling element removal and replacement, greatly improving the convenience of subsequent maintenance.

It is understood that WMMP has successively provided a series of key lifting equipment for the Yantai Salvage Bureau’s “Defu 3600” crane vessel, “Dejian” 1,200-ton wind power installation platform, “Defu 1200” floating crane platform, etc., and has won customer recognition and trust with its superior product performance and excellent product quality.

The signing of the 5,600-ton crane is not only a continuation and expansion of the cooperative relationship between the two parties, but also a new milestone in the cooperation between the two parties in the field of lifting engineering vessels.
