Dalian Liaonan Shipyard Begins Construction of SDARI-Designed 4,000-ton Offshore Workboat

On June 19, Dalian Liaonan Shipyard officially kicked off construction of the 4,000-ton workboat Tuna P4000 for China National Petroleum Corporation Offshore Shipbuilding (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. The ship type was independently developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) of CSSC.

The vessel will be classified by the China Classification Society (CCS) and is a workboat that provides a variety of services for offshore oil and gas exploration and production projects, construction facilities, and other applications.

In addition, the vessel has powerful operational capabilities. Not only can it supply offshore platforms with necessary materials such as fuel, fresh water, and drilling water, but it can also transport drilling equipment, daily necessities, and packaged dangerous goods in the open cargo area on the main deck. The vessel is also equipped with a Fi-Fi1 external firefighting system, enabling it to perform tasks such as platform protection, lifesaving, duty, and transportation of special offshore personnel.

Once the vessel enters service, it will enhance China’s offshore platform supply capabilities and its exploration and development capabilities for offshore oil and natural gas.

Over the years, SDARI has been deeply involved in the field of offshore engineering support vessels, continuously enhancing its core competitiveness. It has now developed the Tuna series of vessels, which can meet the needs of different sea areas, different operations, and different markets:

  • Tuna A060/080/100/150/180/200/260 series of AHTS
  • Tuna P2000/3500/4000/4500/5000 series of PSV
  • Tuna S100/600/1000 series of Survey Vessel
  • Tuna WF60/100 series of Service Operation Vessel
  • Tuna WS25000 series of Well Stimulation Vessel

The new series of offshore support vessels are inspired by tuna, which means “fish without borders”. The Tuna A series is named after the bollard towing force of the AHTS, the Tuna P series is named after the deadweight of the platform supply vessel (PSV), the Tuna S series is named after the drilling depth of the survey vessel, the Tuna WF series is named after the number of people on the wind power operation vessel, and the Tuna WS series is named after the maximum power of the fracturing pump of the well stimulation vessel.
