DryDel Shipping Expands Fleet with New 64,000 dwt Ultramax Order from Nihon Shipyard

Greek bulk carrier owner and operator DryDel Shipping (formerly Meadway Shipping and Trading) is further expanding its fleet through a newbuilding program.

In industry news, DryDel has signed a contract with Nihon Shipyard for the construction of one 64,000 dwt Ultramax bulk carrier, which is expected to be delivered in 2028. The construction cost is not disclosed.

The new vessel adopts a fuel-efficient hull design, an engine that meets Tier III/Phase 3 emission standards, and is equipped with various advanced energy-saving technologies.

This order is the 10th vessel in DryDel’s ongoing newbuilding program, all of which have been built in Japanese shipyards.

Last year, DryDel had ordered two 182,000 dwt bulk carriers equipped with desulphurization towers from Japan’s Namura Shipbuilding, which are expected to be delivered in 2028, and one Ultramax-type bulk carrier each from Shin Kurushima Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.

It is understood that Drydel Shipping was officially renamed on February 19, 2024 to distinguish it from Meadway Bulkers, which was founded in 2021 by Costas Dellaportas’ family member George Dellaportas.
