CNOOC Completes Installation of Record-Breaking Jacket Platform in Wenchang 16-2 Oilfield

Recently, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced that the newly built jacket platform of its Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development project has been installed in the waters of Wenchang, Hainan, becoming the marine oil and gas development and production jacket platform with the highest total structural height in Hainan waters. This marks that the development and construction of the project has made key progress and laid a solid foundation for the oilfield to be put into production on schedule.

The Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development project is located in the western waters of the Pearl River Mouth Basin, with a water depth of about 150 meters. The project is designed to build a new jacket platform that integrates oil and gas production, offshore drilling and completion operations and personnel life support. The total height is more than 200 meters and the total weight is about 19,200 tons.

The topside module of the platform is 65 meters long and 49 meters wide, with a projected area equivalent to the size of 7.5 standard basketball courts. The modular drilling rig is equipped with 20 well slots and various intelligent equipment to meet the basic needs of oilfield development and construction. The living building adopts industry-standard design and can provide long-term offshore residence for 80 operators.

It is understood that the Wenchang 16-2 oilfield development project is the first offshore oilfield development project constructed by CNOOC Hainan Branch since its establishment. The design fully considers the operating conditions and geological conditions of the sea area, and adopts intelligent injection and production, equipment and facility health management, remote control, intelligent security and other technologies to improve the overall intelligence level of the platform and production operation efficiency.
