China’s First Methanol Dual-Fuel Large Container Vessel Begins Construction at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries in Yangzhou

On the morning of October 18, N1071, the first 16,180 TEU methanol dual-fuel container Vessel constructed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in Yangzhou, was ignited and started construction in the company, marking that the Vessel entered the production and construction stage.

N1071 is China’s first methanol dual-fuel large container Vessel, which is a key project of COSCO Shipping Group to meet the demand of green shipping and actively promote low-carbon and zero-carbon fuel ships. The Vessel has an overall length of 367 meters, a beam of 51 meters and a maximum loading capacity of 16,180 TEU. The Vessel meets the EEDI III energy efficiency index, which can reduce the total carbon emission by about 8.9%.

COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in Yangzhou, together with relevant parties, has completed the corresponding design work of methanol dual-fuel retrofit in the shortest possible time, solving the problems of methanol fuel filling, storage, supply and equipment. The vessels are equipped with the world’s first set of domestic WinGD methanol dual-fuel main engine, methanol dual-fuel generator, the world’s first set of ALFALAVAL methanol dual-fuel boiler, as well as methanol fuel barge and supply system.
