Winning Group orders first VLOCs from Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd

On September 6, China Shipbuilding Group Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, together with China Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co., Ltd and Winning International Group, held a signing ceremony for the construction project of two 325,000 DWT ore carriers in Singapore.

This two very large ore carriers(short for”VLOCs”)are WinningMax vessels designed by CSDC, a design company under Beihai Shipbuilding. The so-called WinningMax 325,000 dwt newbuilds, classed by the China Classification Society and DNV, will be nearly 330m long, methanol-ready with 12,000 cu m fuel storage tanks, have a speed of 13.9 knots and are designed to meet the EEDI Phase 3 requirements. Compared with traditional capes, the WinningMax is expected to reduce energy consumption per tonne by nearly 50%. Also, the newshipbulidings meet the methanol fuel preset and configured with 12,000 cubic meters of methanol fuel storage compartment, the future use of green methanol can realize the whole voyage “zero carbon” operation.

The successful conclusion of the new shipbuilding project between Beihai Shipbuilding and Winning International has laid the foundation for both parties to deepen the strategic cooperation for sustainable development and realize mutual benefits and win-win situation.
