Wuchang Shipbuilding Kicks Off Construction of First 1,100 TEU Container Ship for Shanghai PAN-ASIA Shipping

On October 14, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), successfully kicked off construction on the first 1100 TEU container ship for Shanghai PAN-ASIA Shipping.

The 1,100 TEU series vessels feature outstanding advantages such as low energy consumption, high speed, and high load factor, combining economic practicality with cutting-edge technical standards. This vessel type serves as the modern flagship in Wuchang Shipbuilding’s product portfolio of feeder container ships and marks a significant milestone in Pan-Asia Shipping’s independent construction of mainline vessels.

It is worth noting that this project is the first container ship to begin construction since the establishment of Wuchang Shipbuilding Container Ship Project Department, making it a project of significant symbolic importance. Based on the characteristics of Wuchang Shipbuilding’s shipbuilding and marine industry and its plans for future orders, the Container Ship Project Department was established in close alignment with the “15th Five-Year Plan” for the shipbuilding and marine industry. The department holds comprehensive responsibility for the entire lifecycle of container ship projects—encompassing product design, construction, scheduling, quality assurance, cost control, and coordination with shipowners.

The Wuchang Shipbuilding Container Ship Project Department has begun full-scale operations, marking a transition for Wuchang Shipbuilding’s feeder container ship business from a “single-vessel project organization” to a new phase of standardized, serialized, and specialized management.
