Cochin Shipyard Wins Order for Two Luxury River Cruise Vessels

According to recent filings with the stock exchange by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), its subsidiary, Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (HCSL), has secured a follow-up order from Heritage River Journeys Private Limited for two luxury inland river cruise vessels, with delivery scheduled for June 2029 and June 2030, respectively.

The contract value for this order was not disclosed; Cochin Shipyard classified it as a “significant” order, with a value ranging from ₹1 billion to ₹2.5 billion (approximately US$10.3 million to US$25.8 million).

Previously, in June 2025, the two parties signed a construction contract for a luxury river cruise ship and a letter of intent for a second vessel; the construction contract for the second ship was signed in December 2025. These two cruise ships were originally scheduled to operate on the Brahmaputra River route.

At present, the specifications and operational routes of the new vessel have not been disclosed, and there is no information indicating whether it will adopt the same specifications as the previous cruise ship.

Cochin Shipyard, India’s largest state-owned shipbuilder, was established in 1972. It reportedly possesses the capabilities to design, construct, and repair a wide range of vessels—from merchant ships to aircraft carriers—and currently focuses primarily on government projects, including the construction of India’s first domestically built aircraft carrier.
