Transpetrol Sells Aframax Tanker “TP Affinity” to Turkish Buyer for $73 Million

Market sources indicate that Belgian tanker owner Transpetrol has sold its 114,070 dwt Aframax tanker “TP Affinity,” built in 2016, to a Turkish buyer for $73 million.

Data from VesselsValue indicates that the “TP Affinity” was built by HD Hyundai Samho; delivered in July 2016, the vessel is now 10 years old and underwent a scheduled dry-docking in Singapore in July 2026. The agency’s current market valuation for the “TP Affinity” stands at $80.72 million; the final sale price was $7.72 million below this valuation.

This vessel sale coincides with Transpetrol’s ongoing investment in new tonnage. Just two weeks ago, the company announced an order for two 75,000 DWT LR1 tankers from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. While the contract price has not been disclosed, delivery is expected in the first and second quarters of 2030. These represent the shipowner’s first newbuilds in the LR1 tanker segment.

In other vessel segments, Transpetrol placed an order earlier this year with HD Hyundai Samho for two 90,000 cbm Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs) and has also taken delivery of several LR2 tankers.

To date, Transpetrol’s fleet includes two Aframax tankers: the “TP Affinity” (currently being sold) and the “TP Spirit”. This means that upon completion of the transaction, the owner will be left with only one Aframax tanker, while its fleet of LR1/LR2 tankers and gas carriers continues to expand.

In the secondhand market, reports have recently emerged that Transpetrol intends to sell two MR2 product tankers, the “Turmoil” and the “Luctor”.

According to its official website, Transpetrol’s fleet currently comprises 18 vessels—primarily tankers and gas carriers—including eight MR/LR1 tankers, four LR2 tankers, two Aframax tankers, and four VLGCs. The tankers range in size from 45,000 to 115,000 deadweight tons (DWT).
