Seatrium Limited (“Seatrium” or the “Group”) and its strategic partner, floating power leader Karpowership, celebrated the naming and sailaway of LNGT Türkiye, the seventh Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) delivered over an eight-year conversion programme that commenced in 2018.
Since the delivery of LNGT Africa, Seatrium has successfully converted seven LNG carriers into high-performance FSRUs at its Admiralty Yard. The vessels comprise LNGT Africa, LNGT Asia, LNGT Europe, LNGT Antarctica, LNGT Americas, LNGT Oceania and LNGT Türkiye.
Supporting Karpowership’s integrated LNG-to-power value chain, the seven FSRUs will operate alongside its global Powership fleet, supplying clean, reliable feed gas to floating power plants, strengthening energy security and flexible grid access across four continents. The LNG carrier-to-FSRU conversion programme involved complex cryogenic, marine and gas-handling systems integration works.
LNGT Türkiye also holds special significance as the final project for Karpowership to be completed at Seatrium Admiralty Yard ahead of its scheduled return to the Authorities by 2028. The successful completion of the programme reflects the technical excellence, resilience and dedication of the project and engineering teams from both companies who contributed to bringing each vessel into service. Naming the vessel after Karpowership’s home country serves as a fitting tribute to the company’s roots and the strong partnership forged throughout the programme.
The successful completion of LNGT Türkiye builds on the longstanding partnership between Seatrium and Karpowership. Last year, both companies signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) covering the conversion of three LNG carriers into FSRUs, one of which has since materialised into a contract award for the LNGT Karadeniz conversion project. The LOI also includes the potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.
Conversion work is currently underway on LNGT Karadeniz, a flagship project developed under Karpowership’s Kinetics initiative. Engineered to deliver up to 600 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of regasification capacity across multi-pressure send-out systems, LNGT Karadeniz represents the next generation of high-capacity floating gas infrastructure.
To date, Seatrium has successfully delivered 22 FSRU, FLNG and FSU conversion projects worldwide, reinforcing its position as a global leader in gas-related conversions, underpinned by deep engineering expertise, high-quality execution and an unwavering commitment to safety.
