On September 24, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a naming ceremony for three 4,488-TEU container ships built for Regional Container Lines (RCL). The three vessels were named “ANITTA BHUM,” “BENYAPAR BHUM,” and “CHANTISA BHUM,” respectively. One of the vessels was delivered that same afternoon.
This vessel is a flagship product marking Huangpu Wenchong’s entry into the medium-sized container ship market and was designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). The vessel measures approximately 220 meters in length and 37.5 meters in beam, with a designed service speed of approximately 19 knots.
Designed to meet the operational needs of RCL routes and fleet modernization requirements, this vessel type has been continuously optimized in terms of cargo capacity, fuel efficiency, environmental sustainability, and route adaptability. With advantages such as high loading rates, low energy consumption, and operational flexibility, it will strongly support Honghai’s container shipping business in continuously updating its fleet, expanding its carrying capacity, and enhancing operational efficiency.
In 2024, Huangpu Wenchong and RCL successfully signed a contract for the construction of four 4,488-TEU container ships. To date, the two parties have secured a total of eight 4,488-TEU container ships, four 1,900-TEU container ships, and four 3,100-TEU container ships.
