Shelf Drilling jack-up rig booked for work in Southeast Asia

Offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling announced a contract award for the Shelf Drilling Perseverance jack-up rig with PetroVietnam Domestic Exploration Production Operating Company Limited (PVEP POC).

Under the contract, the Shelf Drilling Perseverance will conduct drilling operations offshore Vietnam for a period of approximately 16 months, with a total contract value of approximately US$73 million. The rig is expected to begin mobilizing to Southeast Asia soon, and the PVEP POC is scheduled to begin operations in the third quarter of 2024.

The rig will shortly commence mobilization to Southeast Asia, and the planned start-up of operations with PVEP POC in Vietnam is Q3 2024. The firm term of the contract is approximately 16 months, and the total estimated contract value for the firm period is approximately USD 73 million. The Shelf Drilling Perseverance, a jackup rig that can be deployed in all areas of the world, is said to be completing a charter in July 2023 with IOG in the UK.Built in 2008, Shelf Drilling Perseverance is designed with a Friede & Goldman JU-2000E and has a capacity of 118 people with a water depth of 400 feet.

The new contracts come two months after Shelf Drilling was awarded new contracts for two jack-up rigs to operate offshore Nigeria and has confirmed a new contract extension for another jack-up rig, which is operating on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
