On August 5, U.S.-listed shipowner Excelerate Energy announced the acquisition of the 170,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier “Methane Patricia Camila”, with plans to convert the vessel into the company’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Excelerate did not disclose the seller’s identity or the transaction price. However, according to a stock exchange filing by Japan’s Meiji Shipping Group, the transaction is valued at US$79 million, with delivery scheduled between January and April 2027.
Built by Samsung Heavy Industries and delivered to its owner in 2010, the Methane Patricia Camila measures 291.07 meters in length and 45 meters in beam, and is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Following its conversion into an FSRU, the vessel is expected to enter commercial operation in early 2028; however, details regarding the conversion shipyard and the specific project have not yet been disclosed.
It is worth mentioning that Excelerate confirmed in August 2025 that it would convert the steam-powered LNG carrier “Methane Alison Victoria” acquired in July of the same year into an FSRU. The original owner of the vessel is the Greek GasLog Partners, and the price is approximately US$27 million. At the time, Excelerate regarded the vessel as “the first of its own vessels to be refitted”, but no subsequent modification information of the vessel was disclosed in the market.
To date, Excelerate owns 10 FSRUs with storage capacities ranging from 138,000 to 173,400 cubic meters. The shipowner also recently took delivery of the Excelerate Acadia.
