On August 3, Zhoushan Changhong International successfully hosted the naming and delivery ceremony for the MSC STELLA M X, the fourth vessel in a series of 10,300-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships constructed for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
Jointly developed by Changhong International and CIMC ORIC, the vessel has an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters and a beam of 45.6 meters, with a design speed of 20 knots; it is classed by DNV. It utilizes LNG dual-fuel main engines and generators equipped with a high- and low-pressure hybrid gas supply system, while also incorporating cutting-edge “Ammonia-Ready” and “Methanol-Ready” design features. With an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) approximately 50% lower than the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Phase III emission baseline, it represents a green vessel design that balances economic efficiency with environmental sustainability.
The first vessel in the series, “MSC MARIA RENATA”, was delivered on May 25, 159 days ahead of schedule; the second, “MSC MARIA LAURA”, was delivered on June 8, 206 days early; the third, “MSC MARIA MARILYN X”, was delivered on July 30, 274 days early; and the fourth, “MSC STELLA M X”, was delivered 301 days ahead of schedule, setting a new record for early delivery within the series.
As previously reported, Zhoushan Changhong International signed a contract with MSC in 2023 for the construction of ten 10,300 TEU LNG-powered container ships; the total contract value is approximately US$1.3 billion, with deliveries expected to take place successively before 2027.
