On July 20, Seacon Shipping Group Holdings Limited announced that its indirect wholly-owned subsidiary, Seacon Shipping, had entered into shipbuilding contracts with Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding for two 26,700 DWT bulk carriers. The total contract value is approximately US$66 million, with a price of US$33 million per vessel. The two new vesselss are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2030, respectively.
Seacon Shipping Group stated that the acquisition of two 26,700 DWT bulk carriers aligns with the group’s strategy to continuously optimize its fleet—by phasing out older controlled vessels and replacing them with newer ones—and to expand its controlled fleet.
This shipbuilding contract marks a renewed collaboration between Seacon Shipping Group and Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding after an interval of more than a year. On April 18, 2025, Seacon Shipping Group announced that an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary had signed a contract with Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding to build a 63,300 DWT bulk carrier; the vessel is priced at approximately US$38.34 million and is scheduled for delivery on April 30, 2027.
Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding was originally a wholly-owned Chinese subsidiary of Tsuneishi Holdings (part of the Tsuneishi Group), established in March 2003. In March 2025, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding completed a capital injection into Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, making it an associate company in which Yangzijiang Shipbuilding holds a 34% equity stake. Currently, Tsuneishi Holdings and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding hold 66% and 34% of the equity in Zhoushan Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, respectively.
The latest shipbuilding contract will further expand Seacon Shipping Group’s orderbook. As of the end of 2025, Seacon Shipping Group has a total of 44 new vessels under construction, 22 of which are bulk carriers.
Over the past year, Seacon Shipping Group has continued to expand its fleet across multiple vessel segments: it invested $39.2 million to acquire two 4,981 DWT oil/chemical tankers scheduled for construction in 2026; spent $44.4 million to secure four 5,200 DWT multi-purpose dry cargo vessels built by Dajin Heavy Industry; and invested $198.6 million to acquire six 63,800 DWT bulk carriers built by Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (Nantong Xiangyu SOE).
Earlier this year, Seacon Shipping Group also formally entered the Newcastlemax bulk carrier market by ordering two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers from CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding.
In addition to ordering new vessels, Seacon Shipping Group announced on July 20 that it would sell the “Seacon Tokyo”—a 36,570 DWT bulk carrier—to the Liberian company OBESHIPS MARITIME S.A. for US$41.6 million. The net proceeds from the sale will be used to fund potential vessel acquisitions. The vessel is scheduled for delivery no later than December 2, 2026.
