On July 20, Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Dajin Heavy Industry” or the “Company”) announced that its subsidiary, Tangshan Dajin Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., recently signed a contract with a Greek shipowner for the construction of 3+1 bulk carriers, with a total contract value of approximately RMB 2.1 billion (approximately US$310 million).
The announcement discloses that three vessels are firm orders, while one is subject to a buyer’s option. The total contract value for the three firm vessels is approximately RMB 1.575 billion, and the total contract value for the optional vessel is approximately RMB 525 million.
Regarding the shipowner’s details, Dajin Heavy Industry stated only that the Greek owner has a deep presence in the oil tanker and gas carrier sectors, maintains a diversified fleet, is actively expanding its newbuild portfolio, and has long-standing partnerships with major shipyards in the Asia-Pacific region. The company has engaged in similar transactions with this Greek owner over the past three years.
The vessel type undertaken by Tangshan Dajin is a 211,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) bulk carrier; each vessel has a length overall of approximately 299.95 meters, a beam of about 50 meters, and a depth of about 25 meters. The three confirmed vessels are scheduled for delivery in batches between 2029 and 2030.
Recently, Dajin Heavy Industry has secured multiple shipbuilding contracts.
On June 1, Dajin Heavy Industry announced that Tangshan Dajin would build a total of four 211,000 DWT bulk carriers for shipowners from Greece and Norway. The total contract value is approximately US$300 million (roughly RMB 2.05 billion)—translating to about US$75 million per vessel—with staggered deliveries expected in 2029.
In late June, shipbroking sources reported that Seatankers Management had placed an additional order with Panjin Dajin (a subsidiary of Dajin Heavy Industry) for four 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carriers. This brings the total number of orders for this vessel type between the two parties to eight, with a combined value of nearly US$600 million.
A major exporter of offshore wind power foundation equipment, Dajin Heavy Industry has expanded its business operations into the field of commercial shipbuilding. According to data released by the company on June 9, it has secured external new shipbuilding orders totaling over RMB 8.8 billion since actively entering the market in 2025. These vessels—scheduled for staggered delivery between 2027 and 2029—encompass a diverse range of types, including deck carriers, non-propelled semi-submersible barges, multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, and dry bulk carriers.
Including the latest orders, Dajin Heavy Industry has publicly announced contracts for 23 new vessels this year—comprising twenty-one 210,000-dwt bulk carriers and two multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels—with a total value exceeding US$1.7 billion; delivery schedules extend through 2029, and all orders are from overseas shipowners.
