On July 16, Beihai Shipbuilding, China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), ICBC Financial Leasing, and COSCO Shipping Bulk held a signing ceremony for four 210,000 DWT bulk carriers. The signing of this project represents a practical step by all parties toward thoroughly implementing major national strategies such as building a maritime power and promoting the internationalization of the renminbi.

The 210,000 DWT bulk carrier covered by this contract has an overall length of 299.90 meters, a beam of 50.00 meters, a depth of 26.30 meters, and a structural draft of 18.50 meters. It features a dual-fuel design capable of running on both methanol and ammonia, and complies with the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emissions standards and the requirements of Phase 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
This is the second time this year that COSCO Shipping Bulk has placed an order with Beihai Shipbuilding for 210,000 DWT bulk carriers; the previous order, signed on January 13, was for three such vessels. The vessels ordered at the beginning of the year are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2029.
In early July, COSCO Shipping Development also placed an order with Beihai Shipbuilding for the construction of two 210,000 DWT “methanol + ammonia” fuel-ready dry bulk carriers, with a unit price of 610 million yuan per vessel. Delivery is expected to take place in stages from November 2029 through June 2030.
As of the end of the first half of the year, Beihai Shipbuilding had a backlog of nearly 100 vessels, totaling 22 million deadweight tons, and maintained its position as the world’s leading shipbuilder in terms of orders for 210,000 DWT bulk carriers.
