Sumec Marine Inks Deal with Grieg Shipowning for Two 65,200 DWT Ammonia-ready Open-hatch Multi-purpose Vessels

The Chinese shipbuilder Sumec Marine has signed a construction agreement with Grieg Shipowning for two 65,200 DWT open-hatch vessels equipped with gantry cranes. The Grieg Group is a globally renowned benchmark enterprise in the shipping industry, boasting deep-rooted expertise in the open-hatch multipurpose vessel sector.

The 65,200 DWT open-hatch multi-purpose vessel—the design for which the two parties have signed a contract—features a highly maneuverable and efficient gantry-crane design.

Coupled with a box-shaped cargo hold structure, the vessel offers exceptional versatility in cargo loading. Aligning with the global shipping industry’s low-carbon transition and the broader trend toward green logistics, the vessel is capable of utilizing clean ammonia fuel. This represents a pivotal step for shipping companies seeking to transcend the limitations of conventional vessel types and strategically position themselves within the high-value vessel segment, thereby facilitating the optimization of their business structures and the enrichment of their vessel product portfolios.
