Top Five Tanker Owners Secure Over $8.4 Billion New Vessel Orders Globally

Data from shipping consultancy Veson Nautical shows that so far this year, the world’s top five tanker owners have placed orders for more than 100 tankers, with a total value exceeding $8.4 billion.

According to statistics from Veson Nautical, the top five tanker owners this year, ranked by order value, are:

Dynacom Tankers (Greece): Ranked first with 36 newbuild orders valued at $3.8 billion. Controlled by Greek shipping magnate George Procopiou, Dynacom Tankers’ newbuild orders this year are primarily being constructed by Hengli Heavy Industries and include at least 8 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and 9 Suezmax tankers.

Yangzijiang Maritime Development Ltd. (China): Ranked second with orders for 28 new vessels worth $1.9 billion. Its order book includes 6+6 MR product tankers, 6+2 LR2 product tankers, and 8 VLCCs, all to be built by Chinese shipyards. Yangzijiang Maritime was spun off from Yangzijiang Financial Holdings and listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange in November 2025, becoming the third listed platform under the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, with Ren Yuanlin personally at the helm.

Capital Maritime (Greece): Ranked third with 11 newbuild orders worth $1.3 billion. In February, the shipowner placed an order with Hengli Heavy Industries for 11 VLCCs of 306,000 deadweight tons, with a unit price of approximately $113 million to $133 million.

Venergy Maritime (Greece): Ranked fourth with 14 newbuild orders valued at $991 million. Its orders are spread across shipyards in China and South Korea, including Guangzhou Shipyard International, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, New Times Shipbuilding, and K Shipbuilding in South Korea.

Rederiet Stenersen (Greece): Ranked fifth with 12 newbuild orders valued at $454 million.

By country, Greece leads in the total value of new tanker orders. Veson Nautical stated: “In 2026, Greece will top the global tanker order book, with an order value more than four times that of second-ranked Chinese shipowners, and the volume of orders in 2026 has already reached nearly four times that of the same period last year.”

Based on order value, the top five countries and regions globally for new oil tanker orders are: Greece, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and the United Kingdom, with order values of $39.89 billion, $9.52 billion, $8.61 billion, $5.13 billion, and $5.08 billion, respectively.

In addition to orders under construction, Greek shipowners also rank first in terms of the total value of the active tanker fleet. The top five countries in this ranking are: Greece, China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, with tanker fleet values of $66.38 billion, $39.6 billion, $24.52 billion, $20.26 billion, and $16.24 billion, respectively.
