On May 15, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (CIMC SOE) officially kicked off construction of a 20,000 m³ liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering carrier for GSX ENERG.

CIMC SOE stated that the 20,000 m³ LNG bunkering carrier breaking ground is a brand-new, optimized and upgraded vessel type launched by CIMC SOE based on a proven design. Compared to previous vessels of the same type, the new vessel features adjustments to both core parameters and system configurations. With an overall length of 159 meters, a beam of 25 meters, and a design speed of 13 knots, the new model places greater emphasis on balancing economy and energy efficiency.
The new vessel is equipped with one Wärtsilä dual-fuel main engine and one 1,300 kW shaft generator, which can meet the ship’s power requirements during normal operation. Additionally, a high-voltage shore power system can be installed as an option at a later stage. Compared to traditional LNG carrier and bunkering vessels, the new vessel type employs a dual-fuel boiler with a GCU (Gas Condensation Unit). Designed to meet ice-class requirements, it utilizes evaporated gas to generate steam for cabin heating while the vessel is at berth, thereby maximizing the utilization of LNG fuel.
Since October 2025, GSX ENERG has placed orders with CIMC SOE for four 20,000 m³ LNG carrier and bunkering vessels.
Currently, CIMC SOE holds an order backlog of 10 20,000m³ LNG bunkering vessels and three 18,900m³ LNG bunkering vessels.
