Wuhu Shipyard Lands 57,000 DWT Oil Tanker Newbuild Order from Shandong Ocean Shipping Group

Recently, the transaction result announcement for the procurement project concerning the design and construction of one 57,000 DWT oil tanker issued by Shandong Port Shandong Ocean Shipping Group Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Shandong Ocean Shipping Group Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. has been released. Wuhu Shipyard Co., Ltd. won the bid with a transaction price of 337.8 million yuan (approximately 50 million US dollars).

According to public information, Shandong Ocean Shipping Group Energy Transportation Co., Ltd. was established in March 2024. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shandong Ocean Shipping Group with a registered capital of 10 million yuan. It is mainly responsible for the ocean transportation of oil and energy chemical products, and provides services for crude oil unloading and refining supply at Shandong ports.

Official website information indicates that Shandong Ocean Shipping Group (formerly Shandong Port Shipping Group Co., Ltd.) was established in March 2020 and is headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong. As a specialized shipping company under the Shandong Port Group, it completed its transformation into a joint-stock company in August 2024. The Group operates four core business lines: container shipping and agency services, oil transportation, dry bulk shipping, and passenger and container liner services. It operates more than 60 vessels of various types, with a total carrying capacity of 1.1 million deadweight tons.

In recent days, Wuhu Shipyard has secured several new shipbuilding orders, including up to four 211,000 DWT bulk carriers ordered by Germany’s Reederei Nord and four 82,000 DWT bulk carriers ordered by Switzerland’s Mercuria Energy. Since the beginning of the year, Wuhu Shipyard has publicly announced at least 20 new shipbuilding orders.

As a century-old shipbuilding enterprise, Wuhu Shipyard traces its origins to the Fuji Heng Machinery Factory, which was established in 1900. Excluding the Nantong base—which was recently established and has begun shipbuilding operations—Wuhu Shipyard also owns several shipbuilding-related companies, including its headquarters in Wuhu and the Weihai Shipbuilding Base.

The Wuhu Shipyard headquarters covers an area of ​​1,210,700 square meters, with a total shoreline of 1,355 meters. It has two 80,000-ton slipways and one 740-meter outfitting wharf. The Weihai base covers an area of ​​680 mu (approximately 453,000 square meters).
