Recently, Wuhu Shipyard officially delivered the first unit of a new-generation 6,600 DWT chemical tanker built for Norway’s RFOcean. Featuring DC electric propulsion and duplex stainless steel construction, this vessel marks another milestone for Wuhu Shipyard in the R&D and construction of small to medium‑sized high‑end chemical tankers.

The vessel has an overall length of 113.6 meters and a beam of 17.6 meters. It is equipped with 12 independent liquid cargo tanks made of 2205 duplex stainless steel, which combines high strength with exceptional corrosion resistance, enabling the safe transport of all types of chemicals permitted under the IMO Type II Certificate.
The hull meets the Finnish-Swedish 1A ice class requirements, enabling safe navigation in the winter ice conditions of the Baltic Sea and other seasonal ice zones; meanwhile, its draft design complies with the navigation requirements of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes of North America, ensuring broad global operational adaptability.
The 6,600 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker—distinguished by its high-end design, eco-friendly features, and intelligent capabilities—represents an entirely new series of vessels meticulously crafted by Wuhu Shipyard. By redefining the technical standards for small-to-medium-sized high-end chemical tankers, this series offers the global chemical shipping sector a new generation of solutions that are safer, more efficient and more sustainable.
As the first vessel in the series, the delivery of the RF RAN not only validates this standard but also marks a more solid step forward for Wuhu Shipyard in the realm of high-quality, future-oriented vessels.
Since venturing into the chemical tanker sector in 2016, Wuhu Shipyard—leveraging core technologies such as “Asphalt Cargo Thermal Management” and “Hybrid Solutions,” for which it holds full independent intellectual property rights—has secured the top spot for new orders in this specialized segment for two consecutive years, thereby continuously solidifying its industry standing as a leading global manufacturer of chemical tankers.
