HD Korea Shipbuilding wins 14-ship orders worth 1.97 trillion won in two days

HD Hyundai institutional sector shipbuilding intermediate holding company HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) said on the 8th it signed construction contracts over two days, on the 2nd and the 7th, for a total of 14 ships. The deals amount to 1.971 trillion won.

The ships contracted on the 2nd are a total of four vessels: two 90,000-cubic-meter liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and two 40,000-cubic-meter LPG carriers, ordered separately by a Greek shipowner and an Oceania shipping company. The contract amounts are 349.8 billion won and 239.3 billion won, respectively, and they will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered sequentially from 2028 to the first half of 2029.

These ships are equipped with eco-friendly dual-fuel (DF) engines that can meet tightening environmental regulations.

That day, HD KSOE also won orders from an Asia-based shipping company for eight 50,000-ton petroleum/chemical product carriers (PCs) totaling 611.7 billion won. They will be built by the naval and mid-sized ship business unit of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered to the shipowner by the first half of 2029.

On the 7th, it went on to secure orders from SONANGOL SHIPPING HOLDING for two 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers totaling 770.2 billion won. They will be built by HD Hyundai Samho and delivered to the shipowner by the second half of 2029.

With these orders, HD KSOE has so far booked a total of 68 ships worth $7.25 billion (about 10.6807 trillion won), achieving 31.1% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion (about 34.3402 trillion won).

An HD KSOE official said, “Inquiries for orders across various ship types, including tankers, gas carriers, and container ships, continue amid geopolitical risks and rising oil prices,” adding, “We will maximize profitability through selective orders focused on high value-added ships.”
