Imabari Delivers 13,900 TEU Ammonia/Methanol-Ready Container Ship “ONE SIMPLICITY”

Recently, the 13,900 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container ship “ONE SIMPLICITY,” built at Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame Shipyard, was officially delivered. The vessel was ordered by Ocean Network Express (ONE).

Measuring 335.94 meters in length, 51 meters in beam, and 30.1 meters in draft, the vessel has a gross tonnage of 140,233. It is powered by a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine with a service speed of approximately 22 knots. Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and flying the Liberian flag, the ship is designed for future conversion to methanol/ammonia fuel and is ready to accommodate a carbon capture system, having already received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the classification society.

The vessel can carry up to approximately 13,932 standard containers and is equipped with up to four lashing bridges on the deck, allowing for the loading of a large number of reefer containers in the holds and on the deck, as well as various dangerous goods as defined by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

Featuring an optimized hull form developed using advanced analytical technologies, the ship is designed for high efficiency during high-frequency voyages. Through the adoption of energy-saving devices, a twisted rudder, and hull coatings that reduce friction with seawater, it achieves exceptional fuel efficiency. It is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 60%, far exceeding the latest regulatory requirements. The installation of a bow wind cover further enhances the vessel’s performance during actual operation.

Additionally, to comply with sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission limits, the vessel is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Other environmental measures include a ballast water treatment system and an inventory list compliant with the Ship Recycling Convention.
