Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Secures Orders for 22 New Vessels in Q1

On March 31, 2026, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) issued an announcement detailing the latest progress on shipbuilding contracts recently signed by the Group. In the first quarter of 2026, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding secured orders for a total of 22 new vessels, valued at approximately $980 million (approximately RMB 6.75 billion). These vessels are expected to be delivered between 2028 and 2029.

According to the announcement, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s new ship orders for the first quarter span three major sectors: container ships, oil tankers, and bulk carriers. Specifically, the container ship orders total 17 vessels, including 6 1,100 TEU container ships, 4 1,900 TEU container ships, and 7 5,900 TEU container ships; 4 50,000 DWT MR-type product tankers; and 1 83,000 DWT bulk carrier.

Of the 22 new vessels recently announced by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, details regarding the owner of only one order—an 83,000 DWT bulk carrier—have not yet been disclosed; further details regarding the remaining orders for container ships and oil tankers have already been made public.

Six 1,100-TEU container ships have been ordered by SITC International Holdings at a total cost of $137 million, with each vessel costing $22.8 million. The ships are being built by Jiangsu Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding and Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, and are expected to be delivered between March 31, 2028, and August 31, 2028, or earlier.

Four 1,900-TEU container ships have been ordered by Manqiang Shipping, a subsidiary of Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping. Each vessel is estimated to cost approximately $30 million, with a total project cost of about $120 million. The ships are being built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding, with two scheduled for delivery in 2028 and the remaining two in the first half of 2029.

Seven 5,900-TEU container ships have been ordered by Taiwan-based shipowner Evergreen Shipping Agency(China). With a unit price ranging from $67 million to $82 million, the total cost of the order is between $469 million and $574 million. The vessels will be built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding and are scheduled for delivery in 2029. Notably, this marks Evergreen Shipping’s first shipbuilding order with Yangzi River Shipbuilding, making it a newbuilding order of special significance.

The four 50,000 DWT MR-type product tankers are all from Italy’s D’Amico International Shipping. Two were ordered in January 2026 and two in March 2026, with a unit price of $45.4 million and a total cost of $181.6 million. They are being built by New Yangzi Shipbuilding. Additionally, this Italian shipowner has placed a follow-on order with Yangzi River Shipbuilding for two more MR2-class product tankers of the same type.

Including the 22 new vessels ordered in the first quarter of this year, as of March 31, 2026, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding had a total of 256 vessels on order, with an order value of approximately $22.78 billion (approximately RMB 156.79 billion at current exchange rates), with delivery dates ranging from 2026 to 2030.

According to its official website, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is a large enterprise group whose core business is shipbuilding and offshore engineering manufacturing, supplemented by ship R&D, shipping, and new energy development. In addition to the aforementioned New Yangzi Shipbuilding and Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s shipyards also include Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, Jiangsu Yangzi Mitsui Shipbuilding, and Zhoushan Changshi Shipbuilding, which completed its capital injection in March 2025.

Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding, which will collaborate with New Yangzi Shipbuilding to construct six feeder container ships for SITC International Holdings, is the newest shipyard under Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. Established in April 2024, the shipyard features approximately 1,320 meters of quay length and covers an area of about 1,300 mu. It will include one 300,000-ton dry dock, one 200,000-ton outfitting berth, and one 100,000-ton basin, with an annual production capacity of approximately 800,000 DWT. Construction is scheduled for completion and production to commence by the end of 2026.

Currently, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is actively planning and securing new shipbuilding orders suitable for Yangzi Hongyuan Shipyard. Preliminary shipbuilding work (such as steel structure fabrication) began in the first quarter of 2026, and the first newly built vessel is expected to be delivered in 2027.
