DSIC Tianjin Delivers Second LR2 Tanker, Production Schedule Extended to 2030

DSIC (Dalian) Tianjin Shipbuilding has named and delivered the “CAPE ATHOS,” the second 115,000-ton product tanker built for Cape Shipping.

The vessel has an overall length of 249.80 meters, a beam of 44.00 meters, a depth of 21.20 meters, and a design draft of 15.25 meters. It has a deadweight of approximately 114,800 tons, a service speed of 14.50 knots, and a range of 22,000 nautical miles. The vessel is classed by ABS and complies with Tier III emission standards, having obtained several environmental and smart additional notations, including EEDI-Ph3 and NOx Tier III. These features reflect a design philosophy centered on sustainability, energy efficiency, and smart technology.

At the same time, the vessel builds on the proven construction techniques and management model established on the first-of-class ship, extensively employing the rib-in method. The section layout is optimized, with all critical sections lifted into place as large blocks, effectively enhancing construction efficiency and precision. The cargo oil tanks, slop tanks, and residual oil tanks all utilize a special coating process applied to the entire tank, with painting strictly adhering to manufacturer standards to ensure high-level corrosion protection.

In terms of equipment configuration, the vessel is equipped with three main generators and one emergency generator. Both the main engines and generators are fitted with SCR systems to meet nitrogen oxide emission control requirements. Core systems such as the open-loop desulfurization scrubber, integrated inert gas system, and remote valve control system are all designed in accordance with the latest standards, ensuring excellent environmental performance and operational reliability.

The successful delivery of Vessel P110K-85 marks a continued improvement in Dachuan Tianjin’s capacity for mass production of LR2-class product tankers and has provided valuable experience for the construction of subsequent vessels in the series.

Currently, Dachuan Tianjin has a robust order book, with its product portfolio spanning multiple vessel types, including large container ships, bulk carriers, and oil tankers, totaling approximately 10 million DWT. Notably, new energy vessels—such as those powered by LNG and methanol dual-fuel systems—account for a significant portion of the order book, aligning closely with the global shipping industry’s transition toward green and low-carbon operations. The production schedule extends through 2030.
