On December 21, the second 80,000 DWT self-unloading bulk carrier “CSL KANATA”, built by Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding for a Canadian owner, departed for its maiden voyage. This series comprises five vessels, all constructed by Yangtze Mitsui. This series of vessels comprises five vessels, all built by Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding.

The “CSL KANATA” has an overall length of 229.00 meters, a beam of 32.26 meters, a depth of 20.15 meters, and a design draft of 14.40 meters. It is classified by ABS. The vessel’s propulsion system is equipped with a TIER III methanol-ready main engine with EGR, enabling future switching to methanol fuel. This reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by approximately 80%, sulfur oxides (SOx) by 99%, and carbon dioxide emissions by 10%.
In terms of operational efficiency, the vessel features electrically operated roll-up side-sliding hatch covers and a new generation of self-unloading equipment, reducing reliance on port-specific unloading facilities and enabling continuous and efficient cargo transfer with an unloading rate of up to 5000 tons per hour. It also features a 1500 kW CPP side thruster system, providing flexibility for berthing and unloading at various ports.
It is understood that this batch of vessels commenced mass production in late October 2024, was laid keel in mid-April 2025, launched in late June, and successfully completed sea trials on November 23, with all test results exceeding the predefined development targets.
On December 18, Mr. Andrew Lennox, representing the shipowner; Mr. Song Shuming, Deputy General Manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and General Manager of Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding; and Mr. Yuji Ishimaru, CFO of Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding, jointly signed the delivery documents for the CSL KANATA.
