On November 24, the 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship “MSC SAMIA”, built by Zhoushan Changhong International for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), was successfully named. That afternoon, both parties completed the signing of delivery documents via video conference, marking the official delivery of the vessel.

It is understood that this vessel type was jointly developed and designed by Zhoushan Changhong International and CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC), with fully shared intellectual property rights. The vessel has an overall length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a depth of 25 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots. The vessel is classified by Bureau Veritas (BV).
This vessel features a dual-island layout and is equipped with the largest Type C LNG fuel tanks in its class. Its range in both LNG and fuel oil modes can support a single round trip on classic China-Europe or China-US routes, ensuring operational flexibility for the shipowner.
Featuring clean, eco-friendly, and low-carbon emission characteristics, this vessel achieves approximately 5% fuel savings compared to existing vessels of the same type. Equipped with shaft generators and wind deflectors, its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is reduced by about 40% below the stringent IMO Tier 3 emissions baseline. The technology is forward-looking, incorporating not only dual-fuel propulsion using LNG and conventional fuel but also the industry’s most advanced ammonia fuel “ready” design.
The efficient delivery of MSC’s 11,500 TEU series container ships fully demonstrates Zhoushan Changhong International’s continuous breakthroughs in refined management and enhanced production efficiency, laying a solid foundation for the smooth delivery of subsequent large vessels with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs.
